Pleven is among the leading sports centers in Bulgaria . There are hundreds of Pleven sportsmen and women who used to won medals from Olympic, World and European championships during the past years. The highest achievements are the Olympic first place of Tereza Marinova – track and field events on the Olympic Games in Sidney and Galabin Boevski – weights lifting.

The sports school in town indisputably is the strongest school to discover and develop sports talents. The modern facilities of the school, the higher level of teaching and training process, the skilled specialist and coaches are prerequisite for future successes.
Each year over 2500 students participate in the Municipal and district games in football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, handball, chess etc.

Most of the sport prizes in Pleven belong to the sportsmen and women in karate, track and field events, wrestling, and weight lifting. The Pleven school in acrobatics is among the leading one in the country, brought to Pleven several World and European champions. The sports club in track and field events traditionally fills in the National teams in various disciplines with qualified competitors. Traditionally strong are also the table tennis and volleyball clubs.
The basketball club “Spartak” is again among the leading teams in the internal championship. After having won the Championship prize in 1995 and the Cup of Bulgaria in 1996 our basketball players again have chances for first places.

The football club “Spartak” and “Belite Orli” overcome the heavy financial difficulties. Now after the recent season they positively walk to the First league.
The Pleven sportsmen and women have available two stadiums, tennis, volleyball and basketball halls, covered track, two tennis courts, rudder water pool for all year training, base for equestrian sport etc.
The recreation park “Kalilaka” is favorable place for relax of Pleven townsmen and women, providing facilities for group sport events. Pleven town has available a modern sports medical center that provides regular medical monitoring of active sportsmen and women as well conduct treatment and rehabilitations procedures.
